The Italian capital, Rome, is a city with as much historical importance as you can dream of, and it has so many beautiful and interesting places to see –so many to the point of being almost limitless!, that, in all honest truth, it could not be properly appreciated in all its greatness and vastness in just a couple of days.

But, you can make your blitz-trip weekend in Rome a memorable experience, if you have, at least, a notion of what to do, and where to go to take the most out of it.

roma finale 2009 Champions League Final in Rome Part 2

Are you one of the lucky soccer fans handling tickets for the Champions League final that Rome will host next May 27? Still have not arranged your trip? I’d like to show you some more information about how the city is organizing the event to welcome the fans of FC Manchester United and FC Barcelona.

Probably most of cheap flights from England and Spain to Rome Ciampino are already booked, but while searching on the Ryanair website, I noticed that some seats are still available, for example from Liverpool on May 26 with many options for the back flight. The Spanish fans, however, can flight directly from Barcelona by Vueling arriving in Fiumicino, the main airport of Rome: many seats still available for online reservations.

beaches around rome A lovely day trip to the beaches around Rome.

When in Rome, Italy during the summer months temperature could be very hot and you may need a pause between visiting the Colosseum ,the Vatican and the innumerable monuments and travel attractions that the eternal city offers . You’ll probably miss a beach with clean waters to get the sun, swim and relax yourself. As Roman, I can definitely say that the nearest beach destinations around Rome like Ostia and Fregene are not so clean but if you have a car or even better a scooter , there are many amazing and clean sand beaches like in Sperlonga and Gaeta that can be reached within 2 hours driving.

A piece of Colosseum mailed back after 25 years

A couple of American tourists have returned a stone from the Colosseum they swiped 25 years ago as a souvenir. The little piece of travertine, small enough to fit into a pocket, arrived in Rome in a courier package from Greensboro, North Carolina.

We should have done much earlier, but we apologize and return what we have taken the Coliseum 25 years ago, to return to the place where it belongs”.

”Every time I faced at my souvenir collection and came across that bit it made me feel guilty,” wrote the wife.

And while the Colosseum is a remarkable piece of Roman history, the true charm of both the area and the Nicolas Inn is that it remains an unspoiled typical Roman neighborhood. The shops are simply the shops used by local residents. In them you will find many lovely things no doubt. But these are not items stocked with the intention of luring the tourist dollar. These are items of use are beauty as intended for the citizens of Rome.
